From Spa Water Recipe to Homemade Sports Drink
The most popular New Years Resolution is to eat right, loose weight and get fit. One of THE most important elements to weight loss and a healthier lifestyle is hydration. There are few health practices as easy to adopt, and with such positive results, as drinking water!
Replacing fluids lost during exercise (health experts recommend one quart of cool re-hydrating liquid per hour of strenuous exercise), is important, but poor beverage choices could sabotage your efforts… Making your own Sports Drinks can not only save you calories, but expenses as well. The main nutritional elements in commercial or homemade sports drink are water, carbohydrates, and electrolytes (sodium and potassium). When making your own sports drink, apple, orange, or grape juices are an excellent base, since they contain both glucose and fructose sugars, as well as potassium, which is lost with sweating. Adding salt (to replace the sodium lost while sweating) to a mixture of juice, and water is an easy, healthy and low calorie way to make a sports drink.
